Jill made her acting debut with the role of Escort Twin in “Dead Ringers” in 1988, and working at a rapid pace, portrayed Elisabeth / Marla in two episodes of “Deadly Nightmares” in the following year, then joined the cast of “Friday the 13th: The Series”, opposite Louise Robey and Chris Wiggins. In 1993, Hennessy was cast to play Claire Kincaid in the worldwide beloved and positively appraised TV series, “Law & Order”, ultimately appearing in its 63 episodes through 1996. Concurrently the actress worked on “The Paper”, which follows the story of a man who faces serious life changes as he gets a tempting job offer. In 2001 Jill joined the cast of “Crossing Jordan”, playing the main character in the series following the story of Dr. Jordan Cavanaugh as she tries to solve cases, with such as Miguel Ferrer, Ravi Kapoor and Steve Valentine. Having finished with that in 2007, the actress portrayed Brenda Bartlett in “Lymelife”, a comedy movie which received a generally positive response from the audience.

In 2011, Jill began working on the drama sport series entitled “Luck”, opposite Dustin Hoffman and Dennis Farina, and in 2013 played Karyn in “Jo”, a crime mini-series.
