Early Life and Education
Laura is of Italian and American descent, and grew up celebrating Italian traditions. She attended St. Joseph by the Sea High School located in Staten Island, and around this time became set on pursuing a career as a television reporter, after experiencing storytelling competitions which would have her memorize a story to tell to a large audience. Her mother was also instrumental in inspiring her to pursue that career.
After matriculating, she attended George Washington University (GWU) located in Washington, D.C., graduating as summa cum laude with a degree in English, and was also a presidential scholar. During her time at the university, she was selected for the program called Semester at Sea, sailing around the world and studying in 10 countries. She later continued her studies, completing a master’s degree in English and Comparative Literature from Columbia University.
Journalism CareerIn 2005, Lauren began her career with CNN as a writer and producer for two years, before in 2007 joining the Fox Business Network, becoming a reporter and a field producer. She became a co-host of the early morning business news program entitled “FBN:AM”, which airs on weekdays beginning at 5AM eastern time. During her time with the company, she has reported on numerous major economic and financial news events; she was one of the reporters who heavily covered the 2008 financial crisis, including the bankruptcy of the Lehman Brothers. She also reported on the BP oil spill, and about Bernie Madoff who is known to have operated the largest Ponzi scheme in history with fraud amounting to $64.8 billion.

She also reported on major Initial Public Offerings (IPO) which is when companies would start offering their stock to the public for the first time – one of the major IPO’s she reported was Facebook. She also conducted many interviews with traders and high profile Wall Street executives, including from NASDAQ, NYMEX and the New York Stock Exchange. For her work with FBN, she was rewarded with the Italian-American Achievement Award by the NYPD Columbia Association. Before going on maternity leave for the second time, she was the sole business producer for content relating to the New York Stock Exchange. She briefly left Fox Business Network in 2017 as her pregnancy left her incapable of maintaining her regular work schedule. Many speculated that she had left the network, but it was later clarified that she just took a leave of absence from work. She returned in 2018, and joined the Fox Business Network morning program once more.
For her personal life, it is known that Simonetti is married to Mark Cubrilo who is a satellite engineer for the Fox Business Network. The two started dating in 2008 and married three years later, with their wedding being held at the Crystal Plaza in Livingston, New Jersey, and travelled to various parts of Africa during their honeymoon. They now have two children together.
