Terence Steven McQueen was born on the 24th March 1930, in Beech Grove, Indiana USA, and was an actor, perhaps best remembered for lead roles in such films as “The Great Escape” (1964), “The Sand Pebbles”, (1966), “Bullitt” (1968), and “Papillon” (1973), among many other roles. The son of Julia Ann and William Terens McQueen, his father was a pilot, and his mother was a prostitute partly because she had problems with alcohol. As a result he went on to Slater, Missouri, where he was raised by his maternal grandparents. However, as a child he was abused, and so moved to Greenwich Village, New York to live with his mother at the age of 16. Before his acting career started, Steve served in the US Marine Corps, eventually being honorably discharged, after saving several lives during an exercise in the Arctic.

Taught by Stella Adler and also taking acting classes at Sanford Meiner’s Neighborhood Playhouse helped him a lot in his early days. He made his debut on stage in the play “Peg O’ My Heart”, and “Two Fingers of Pride”, among other plays, and after these initial successes, Steve reached Broadway and appeared in the play “A Handful of Rain” in 1955. Encouraged, Steve settled in Hollywood where he made his screen debut in the film “Somebody Up There Likes Me”, then in 1958 was cast in his first recurring role, as Josh Randall in the TV series “Dead or Alive”. The role helped him reach out to other casting directors, and in no time he started appearing in big screen box office hits of the time. During his career, Steve featured in over 40 film and TV titles, all of which increased his net worth. One of his last appearances was in the film “The Hunter”, after which he was diagnosed with pleural mesothelioma.

Barbara was Steve’s third wife; before her, he was married to Neile Adams, which lasted from 1956 until 1972 with whom he had two children. He then married actress Ali MacGraw in 1973 but the two divorced in 1978. During their marriage Ali suffered a miscarriage which had put a strain on their relationship and ultimately lead to divorce.
