During this time, he was on the verge of quitting acting as he wasn’t getting many opportunities. He sent a self-taped audition video to Disney Channel which turned his acting career around, as he was invited to do a reading in Los Angeles, and filmmakers were impressed with his natural talent and personality. This led to him being cast as one of the characters in the television movie “Descendants”, playing Prince Ben, the son of Queen Belle played by Keegan Connor Tracy, and King Beast played by Dan Payne.

Descendants was released in 2015 and is a musical film focused on the teenage descendants of various Disney characters including Maleficent, Jafar, and Cruella De Vil. It is set 20 years after the marriage of Belle and Beast, then creating a new nation from surrounding kingdoms, while villains have been banished to an Island prison where magic is suspended. Their son would later make a proclamation freeing four selected children to have them live life outside the influence of their parents. However, the freed children are sent on a mission to steal the Fairy Godmother’s magic wand to help release the villains.

Hope would later reprise his role in the film “Descendants 2” which now focuses on him as King with his girlfriend Mal, the daughter of Maleficent; the story continues to the struggles of the four children as they adjust to their new lives. A third film is set to be released in 2019, and will have all characters returning to reprise their roles. The film is reported to have already finished filming in 2018, and this third film will be the last in the series. Children of other fairy tale characters will also be included as a part of the new story.

Personal Life and Relationships

Many fans believe that Mitchell is in a relationship with “Descendants” co-star Dove Cameron, who plays Mal in the movie series; however, the two have denied any romance between them, stating that the reason for their good on-screen chemistry is because they are best friends in real life. They supported each other throughout the films, but Dove was also reported to have been with a relationship with actor Ryan McCartan from 2013 to 2016. She later dated “Descendants 2” co-star Thomas Doherty.

Mitchell on the other hand is reported to have been in a relationship with fellow Australian actress Tayla Audrey since 2015.
