Who is Vicky Karayiannis?

Vicky Karayiannis, born on the 13th of August 1987, is an American publicist and philanthropist, who became better known as the wife of the late rock singer Chris Cornell. Her life became highly publicised when her husband committed suicide in 2017.

Not much is known about Karayiannis’s personal life, except that she is of Greek ancestry; her mother is Toni Karayiannis and she also has a brother named Nicholas Karayiannis. They all follow the Greek Orthodox religion.

Chris Cornell was born Christopher John Boyle on the 20th of July 1964. He was the lead vocalist of the bands Soundgarden and Audioslave, who came into the music industry in 1984, and immediately made a name for himself for his unique style, and incredible nearly four-octave vocal range. He is considered one of the pioneers and lead voices of the 1990’s grunge movement.


He was able to release four solo albums and one live album, as well as other albums with his bands. He is best known for his songs “Black Hole Sun”, “Hunger Strike”, “Nothing Compares 2 U”, “Say Hello 2 Heaven” and “Fell on Black Days” among many others. Unfortunately along with his fame, he also suffered depression, and became addicted to various kinds of drugs and other vices.

Before Cornell met Karayiannis, he was previously married to Susan Silver, who was also the former manager of Cornell’s band. The two got married in 1990 and had one daughter, Lillian Jean, before their marriage ended in 2003.

In 2017, Cornell was found dead in his hotel room in Detroit after performing a show with his band Soundgarden. His death was ruled suicide by hanging, using an exercise band.

Despite maintaining a private life, Karayiannis has encountered some bad publicity. In 2006, her cleaning lady named Elia Mora filed a legal complaint after claiming that she was forced to work 43 hours a week, and was not paid any overtime fees. She was also denied any breaks while working. It has not been reported clearly whether the matter has been resolved.
