Who is Hilary Farr?

Born Hilary Labow on the 31st August 1982, in Toronto, Ontario Canada, she is an interior home designer, renovator, television host, and actress as well, probably best known to the world from appearing in the HGTV show “Love It or List It” (2008-2018), alongside David Visentin, and in “Brother vs. Brother” (2013-2015), among other differing accomplishments.

Early Life, Family, and Education

Although born in Canada, Hilary grew up in London, England, and it was in her early years that she became drawn to home designing, as she would often help her mother decorating their family home. She has never talked about her father and education, though it is known that after high school she enrolled at Ryerson University.

Acting Career

Hilary was actually an actress, before pursuing home decorating professionally. She made her debut in 1972 in a minor role in the film “Layout for 5 Models”, she continued with appearances in such films as “Never Mind the Quality: Feel the Width” in 1973, then “Frustrated Wives” in 1974, and had a supporting role in the comedy musical “The Rocky Horror Picture Show” in 1975, starring Tim Curry, Susan Sarandon and Barry Bostwick. She remained active as an actress until the mid- ‘80s, with her last role in the TV series “We Got It Made” in 1984.

Upon leaving an acting, Hilary started pursuing her other love – home decoration. She bought a number of properties on which she spent time renovating, which helped her hone her skills and become recognized for her work. Gradually she started working with celebrities, and also expanded her work to Australia, the UK and Canada, in addition to her already established a business in the US. Her company, Hilary Farr’s Designs became recognized all over the world, which caught the attention of such celebrities as Jenna Elfman and Jennifer Hudson.

Return to Toronto

After going through some personal troubles, Hillary returned to her hometown and auditioned for a spot in the HGTV show “Love It or List It”, subsequently joining with David Visentin as co-host of what would become one of the most praised shows on HGTV. The show premiered on the 8th September 2008, and has so far aired 130 episodes, with another string of 20 episodes that started airing in June this year.
