Who is Jesse Duplantis?
Jesse Duplantis was born on the 9th July 1949, in New Orleans, Louisiana USA, he is an Evangelical Charismatic Christian minister, best known to the world as the founder of Jesse Duplantis Ministries through which he preaches about prosperity and abundance, often being referred to as “prosperity gospel”. Since founding his ministry, Jesse has expanded his influence to Australia and the United Kingdom.
Early Life, and Education
Jesse grew up in Houma, Louisiana, and at first he wasn’t much interested in religion, faith and preaching. His first love was music; he played guitar and as he got older, his skills improved and would eventually become a seasonal guitarist in a few glam and heavy metal bands. There is no information about his formal education.
Life Before JDM
Before Jesse had an epiphany, he was a guitarist in several bands, starting his musical career with the band Spring Winecooler, and using the stage name Jerry Jackson. As his skills improved, Jesse started performing solo, and was an opening act for several popular blues and jazz bands of the time. However, his interest changed when he heard evangelist Billy Graham speak about salvation and the Love of Christ.
Jesse delivered his first sermon in 1976; John Hagee presented him as “The Apostle of Joy” on the Trinity Broadcast Network, a phrase which has stuck with him until the present day. Within two years of his first sermon, Jesse had become a full-time evangelistic minister, and soon founded the Jesse Duplantis Ministries (JDM), which has since branched out internationally, specifically to the United Kingdom, and Australia. It was in 1997 that he and his wife Cathy started the Covenant Church, with headquarters in Destrehan, Louisiana. He was gaining attention from people around the world, mostly because of his comic way of preaching, and use of music for his gospels.
Jesse is also an accomplished author, having published several books; his first – “Ministry of Cheerfulness” – was released in 1994 and since then he has written such books as “Heaven: Close Encounters of the God Kind” (1996), “God Is Not Enough, He’s Too Much” (2001), “What in Hell Do You Want” (2003), and most recently “Why Isn’t My Giving Working?: The Four Types of Giving”, in 2013.

He explained his need for private jets by saying that if Jesus was present on earth in the modern day, that he wouldn’t ride a donkey and would be in an airplane preaching the gospel all over the world. He received a ton of negative criticism, and in response said, “I’m not asking you to pay for my plane”.
Tax Issues and Alleged Fraud
Jesse has built his fortune on donations by his many followers; his $3 million worth house was bought with these donations, but is registered as a church rectory although it also his personal house.
