Kristen spent her childhood in Philadelphia, where she was raised by her father, Harvey Welker who worked as an engineer, and mother Julie Welker, who was a real estate agent. Regarding her education, Kristen attended Germantown Friends School in Philadelphia, and upon matriculation in 1994, she enrolled in Harvard College, from which she graduated with honors with a Bachelor of Arts in 1998, majoring in History.

Career Beginnings

Kristen’s professional journalism career started in the late 1990s, in Providence, Rhode Island where she was hired at ABC affiliate WLNE-TV, and where she spent three years before joining KRCR-TV in Redding/Chico, California in 2001. Two years later, Kristen started working as a reporter for WLNE-ABC6 News, which marked an increase to her net worth and popularity.

Kristen decided to leave WLNE-ABC6 News in 2005 and join the NBC 10 affiliate WCAU, working there not only as a reporter, but also as a weekend on-air anchor.
