Television Work

While doing theatrical work, Smith also made her television debut, in an episode of “In Living Color” in 1993. Soon, she would start making guest appearances in numerous popular television shows, including “The Parkers”, “3^rd Rock from the Sun”, “NYPD Blue”, “Living Single”, and “Moesha”. She was also cast in recurring roles in other shows, such as “Martin” which was one of the highest rated sitcoms of Fox during the 1990s. She was also a part of “The Jamie Foxx Show” which was not a major success, but helped launch Foxx’s acting career. Other shows Smith was a part of included “Sister, Sister”, and “Malcolm & Eddie”.

In 2001, Smith began appearing in the sitcom “The Bernie Mac Show”, actually cast opposite Bernie Mac. The sitcom featured comic actor Bernie Mac as he tried to raise his sister’s three kids, with his own wife. In the show, Smith played the role of Bernie’s wife Wanda and the show would go on to run for five seasons from 2001 to 2006. Thanks to her performances, she was nominated four times for an NAACP Image Award. While doing the show, she also had other projects, including “Hair Show”, in which she starred alongside Mo’Nique.

After the Bernie Mac Show

She also appeared in 2015’s “Sharknado 3: Oh Hell No!”, and a few of her latest projects include guest appearances in “Hell’s Kitchen” and “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles”. She has also played Detective Anderson in “The Man in 3B”, which is a mystery thriller based on a novel of the same name.
