Prison Problems and Tandem Projects
In 2015, Kevin was found guilty of a misdemeanor battery, after kicking a 19 year old audience member in the chest; the sentence was five months in Florida’s Polk County Jail. Just as he was about to be released, it was delayed due to an outstanding warrant found on a weapons charge back in Cooks County, Illinois. Despite the problems, Gates has maintained support for the release of her husband, and support was also given by numerous hip hop artists in the industry. Kevin was later convicted, and is serving a 30-month sentence in Illinois.
Despite him being in jail, Dreka focused back on work and started putting together a new project for Gates’ fans. She started working on content that her husband recorded years back, but hasn’t had the time to release. The project was said to be done with Vice President of Artist Partner Group. Jeff Vaught, and would be called “By Any Means 2” which is a 14 track mixtape consisting of various themes of her husband’s life.
