Career Beginnings

Melissa slowly changed her dreams and desires as she got older, and ultimately focused on becoming an actress. She made her acting debut in 1983 with the role of Georgina in the fantasy drama film “Somewhere, Tomorrow”, starring Sarah Jessica Parker, Nancy Addison and Tom Shea, then the following year had her first recurring role, as Jade Perkins in the soap opera “Santa Barbara” (1984-1985), but left the series when she was chosen for the part of Jennifer Horton in one of the most popular soap operas of all time, “Days of Our Lives”.

“Days of Our Lives”

She became the first actress to play Jennifer as an adult, after the character was first played by a young actress. In her first stint, Melissa remained in the series until 1995, when she decided to leave the set and the series in the middle of the 30th season, and as a result was sued by Corday Productions and Sony TV Entertainment for breach of contract. Melissa managed to avoid a court appearance, and settled the lawsuit out of court, ordered to pay an unspecified sum, which Days Executive Producer Ken Corday donated to pediatric AIDS research. Before leaving “Days of Our Lives”, Melissa featured in three television films which are spin-offs from the popular series, “One Stormy Night” in 1992, then “Night Sins” and “Winter Heat”, in 1993 and 1994 respectively. Once she left the series, she wasn’t very active as an actress, appearing only in the television film “Half a Dozen Babies” in 1999, co-starring with her husband Scott Reeves.

Return to Days of Our Lives”

When she left the series for the first time, Melissa was replaced by Stephanie Cameron, who remained in the series until 1998. Melissa returned in 2000 and portrayed Jennifer for the next six years when she left the set once again. However, this time, she announced that she was leaving the series and stated her reasons: she was moving with her husband to Tennessee. However, that wasn’t the end of Melissa Reeves and Jennifer Horton on “Days of Our Lives”, since Reeves made another comeback to the series, this time in June 2010 and has since been portraying Jennifer again; so far, she’s appeared in more than 1,100 episodes in total. For her efforts, Melissa has won three Soap Opera Digest Awards, and been nominated two times for Daytime Emmy Awards, but the award slipped out of her hands both times. Aside from “Days of Our Lives”, in recent years she also appeared in the family drama film “Where the Fast Lane Ends” in 2017.
