Marriage to Michael Hastings
In 2011, Jordan married fellow journalist Michael Hastings in Holly Springs, Mississippi – he had rose to prominence for his coverage of the Iraq War while working for Newsweek in the 2000s. He wrote the book entitled “I Lost My Love in Baghdad: A Modern War Story”, which details his engagement to Andrea Parhamovich prior to her death. He also received a George Polk Award for his profile of General Stanley McChrystal – entitled “The Runaway General” – and would then write the book entitled “The Operators”, which details his one month stay with the General.
Tragic DeathOnly two years after their marriage, Michael would tragically pass away, crashing his Mercedes C250 Coupe in the Hancock Park neighborhood in Los Angeles. According to eyewitness reports, the car was travelling at maximum speed, creating sparks and flames before crashing into a palm tree. His body was burned beyond recognition – an investigation showed that there were no signs of foul play. Numerous questions were raised about the events that took his life, and Richard A. Clarke even mentioned that the details of the crash were consistent with a car cyber-attack. Days before the crash, Hastings declared that he was being investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), stating that he has a big story and would need to ‘go off the radar’, however, the FBI released a statement that they were not involved in any investigation regarding him. Some friends of Hastings stated that in the days prior to his death, he had grown increasingly agitated, stating that he was worried that his new story was being surveyed by the government.
