Mike spent his childhood in his hometown, and after matriculating enrolled at Ohio State University, from which he obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in atmospheric sciences. As early as 1988 Mike found his first engagement, working for WSYX/WTTE as a weekend meteorologist, which lasted for ten full years before he was recruited by WLSO as a chief meteorologist. For the next five years he honed his skills, learning about his subject before he received a life-changing offer – a call from The Weather Channel, for which he became a field reporter. Gradually, his role at the channel increased, and from the field he was also moved indoors, but still had duties as a reporter. From 2006 to 2009 he was co-host of the “Abrams & Bettes: Beyond the Forecast” show, alongside Stephanie Abrams, and his hard work was further awarded when he was given the role of co-host of “Weather Center Live” in 2009, while from 2009 to 2014 he was correspondent and fill-anchor for “Wake Up With Al”.

It was during these years that Mike reached prominence; as a special reporter and storm chaser, he was out and about during all the major storms that happened in the USA, such as in El Reno, Oklahoma, when he and his crew were caught in an EF5 tornado, which tossed their SUV 200 yards into a field. He has remained on The Weather Channel but has a ton more work – he is the Morning Rush co-host, then “America Morning Headquarters” co-host and can be seen also on the Weather Underground TV.
