A new study out finds this little girl from #Greensboro, North Carolina should be making slightly above the poverty line ($16K a year) . She’s black and from a mixed neighborhood in #TheSouth. But the black boys in the neighborhood? They fare much worse. They only make about $7.2K on average a year. The white students to her north? They’ll make $34k, more than double, what she makes. . This @harvard study — on the cover of the @nytimes this week ?— finds that the difference between whether or not we reach the “American Dream” *could* come down to which neighborhood we were born in. I repeat: WHICH ?? NEIGHBORHOOD??. . What’s more? Only 50 percent of us are going to earn more money than our parents did. . That’s why Harvard decided to get a bunch of nerdy (and cute! ??‍?) scientists together to literally go town-to-town, trying to help some cities where kids are *especially* at risk — do better. . How do they find these kids? A map. It almost looks like a google map. ? You can type in your exact town — and see what *your* expected outcome of success could be — and how that may differ from the neighborhood beside you. Try it! ? What does the data say about your ‘hood? ➡️Www.OPPORTUNITYATLAS.ORG . Thanks to these economic #RoadWarriors who are pounding the pavement to make our neighborhoods more inclusive, our opportunities more available, and our world a LOT better. ?‍?‍?‍? #BeAVillage #TBT
