Another two years went by, and he was promoted to the on-air correspondent position, covering crises such as the Lebanon war and Rajiv Gandhi’s election after the assassination of his mother. In 1986, he obtained a regular presence in the ABC newsmagazine “20/20”, at the same time serving as a substitute host for “Good Morning America.” He remained there until 1992, when he joined NBC News as the co-anchor of “Dateline NBC,” where he got to interview some of the most notorious killers, such as Jeffrey Dahmer and Bernhard Goetz.
