Who is Tim Curry?

Born Timothy James Curry, on the 19th of April, 1946, Curry is an English actor, singer, and voice actor who became famous for his portrayal of Dr. Frank-N-Furter in the hit stage production of “The Rocky Horror Picture Show. He also became known for his performance in the stage play “Amadeus” and “Spamalot” and the films “Annie” and “Clue.”

Tim Curry’s Childhood

Born in Grappenhall, Cheshire in England, Curry is the son of Patricia, who was a school secretary, and James, who was a chaplain in the Royal Navy. He also has one other sister named Judith.

Curry spent most of his time growing up in Plymouth, Devon, but later on moved to South London after his father’s death. He went to Kingswood School in Bath, Somerset, where he discovered his talent in singing. He later on pursued a degree in English and Drama at University of Birmingham where he discovered his passion for acting and graduated in 1968.

Right after graduation, Curry made his theater debut in the West End production of the musical “Hair” playing the role of Woof. After only two years with the production, he decided to leave and in 1970 joined the Royal Shakespeare Company.


In 1973, Curry’s big break in his career came when he got to play the role of Dr. Frank-N-Furter in the London stage production of “The Rocky Horror Show.” The musical comedy became a huge hit and has created a cult following. It’s success also made its way into Broadway and even a movie version entitled “The Rocky Horror Picture Show.” His portrayal of the outlandish transvestite Dr. Frank-N-Furter helped further his career into new heights and the success of the musical also increased his net worth.

After the success of “The Rocky Horror Show”, Curry continued acting both on stage and screen. During the early ‘80s, he had a string of notable projects including his Tony-nominated performance in the musical comedy “Amadeus”, as well as joining the cast of “Annie” in 1982 and the mystery film “Clue” in 1985.


In the ‘90s, Curry also became more known for his antagonist characters. He played Stephen King’s infamous clown Pennywise in the miniseries “It” in 1990, and also lent his voice playing the role of Captain Hook in “Peter Pan and the Pirates” in 1991 in which he won a Daytime Emmy Award. Other notable projects that he did in the ‘90s include “The Three Musketeers” and “Muppet Treasure Island.” He also lent his voice in the movies “Sonic the Hedgehog” and “The Rugrats Movie.”

During the 2000’s, Curry continued to be active in acting appearing in the movie “Charlie’s Angels”, and the stage production of “Spamalot. He also appeared in various television series including “Criminal Minds”, “Psych”, and “Will and Grace.” His longstanding career as an actor in film, television, and stage helped establish him as an actor and tremendously helped his net worth as well.
