Who is Robin Meade?

Robin Michelle Meade was born on 21 April 1969, in New London, Ohio USA, and is a journalist as well as a news anchor, probably best known for being the lead news anchor of the show “Morning Express with Robin Meade”, which airs on HLN.

Early Life and Career Beginnings

Robin grew up in New London, and attended New London High School. After matriculating, she enrolled in Malone University and then moved to Ashland University, from where she graduated in 1991 with a degree in radio/television production, programming and performance – she also had a minor in political science. After completing her education, she earned popularity the following year when she won the Miss Ohio pageant, leading her to join the Miss America pageant, in which she had a semi-finalist finish.

After her Miss America run, she began her journalism career with the Mansfield, Ohio station WMFD-TV which she served as a reporter. She then moved to Columbus, Ohio to work as an anchor and reporter for WCMH-TV, followed by a stint at Cleveland’s WJW-TV before moving to Miami, Florida where she became the morning news anchor of the television show “Today in Florida” on the network WSVN-TV. She was also the station’s health reporter and noontime anchor.

HLN and Morning Express

Meade’s next job would take her to WMAQ-TV, an NBC Chicago affiliate. During her time there, she co-anchored weekend newscasts and was also the general assignment correspondent for the station, as well as anchoring morning newscasts. She covered the 1996 Olympics and also reported on the Centennial Olympic Park bombing. She left WMAQ-TV to join CNN Headline News which would later become HLN, anchoring the coverage of Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom which were high profile military operations by the US after the September 11 attacks.


She worked mainly at the CNN world headquarters in Atlanta, and eventually her tenure lead to her own show entitled “Morning Express with Robin Meade”. The show features an ensemble led by her which includes money correspondent Jennifer Westhoven, and meteorologist Bob Van Dillen, and discusses sports, entertainment, travel, weather, news and finance. The show is particularly popular among young males from 18-34 years old. The program was originally called “Robin & Company” but was later rebranded and billed “the fastest morning news show on television”. Meade has also written a book entitled “Morning Sunshine! How to Radiate Confidence and Feel It Too”, based on her work, and which made the New York Times Best Seller list.

Other Work and Awards

In 2011, Robin became the moderator of the show “Ask Oprah’s All Stars” which aired on the Oprah Winfrey Network, joining Dr. Phil McGraw, Dr. Mehmet Oz, and Suze Orman. In the same year, she released her own country music album entitled “Brand New Day”, with the single “Dirty Laundry’ receiving radio airtime; this led her to be featured in the publication “Making Music”. She also sang “Star Spangled Banner” at the NASCAR Sprint Cup pre-race activities.

For her journalism work, Robin won a Young Alumnus Award for her achievements in broadcasting, received a regional Emmy Award for her coverage of the 1995 collision of a train and a school bus in Fox River Grove, and was also nominated for reporting on decreasing chances of injury in survivable plane crashes. She also served as the commencement speaker in 2005 at Ashland University. She is considered one of the more popular television personalities in terms of broadcast news, even being voted as “Sexiest Newscaster” by a Playboy online poll.

Personal Life

For her personal life, it is known that Robin married Tim Yeager in 1993 though not many details have been shared about their relationship. She revealed in an interview that country singer and songwriter Blake Shelton is her distant cousin.
