Television Career and Later Work

Later on, diGenova would become a frequent face on cable news television, particularly as a part of Fox News which he served as a commentator and analyst. On television, he has accused the FBI of trying to frame President Donald Trump for crimes which are non-existent. He has been a long supporter of Trump, and along with his wife was later hired to serve the legal team of Trump in dealings with the Special Counsel Investigation.

The Special Counsel Investigation was created to investigate any possible Russian government efforts to interfere in the 2016 presidential election, and look into any possible links between Trump with the Russians. However, the hiring of the counsel was later retracted due to potential conflicts of interest; Trump had initially intended for diGenova to be a television stand-in to help spearhead attacks against the investigation and the Special Counsel. In 2018, diGenova attracted attention once more by calling for the firing of Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein. He also alleged that the Russian interference investigation team headed by Robert Mueller were “legal terrorists”.

Further Controversy

Joseph would go on air and call former FBI Director James Coney a dirty cop, his actions clearly supported by President Trump who would use his quotes in tweets. Joseph also called for the pardoning of Scooter Libby, an adviser of Dick Cheney who was found guilty of perjury as he was leaking sensitive classified material. The move was said to be due to the fact that he married Libby’s lawyer – the call led to Libby being pardoned in 2018.
