Quinn did co-hosting and news directing work at WVAO before finding his first newsroom job as a part of WVIR, also located in Charlottesville, as the weekend weather anchor and an evening news anchor. In 2005 he gained popularity during his coverage of the hurricane season in which he worked closely with the former director of the National Hurricane Center Max Mayfield, and joining Hurricane Hunters, collecting data as they observed the eye of Hurricane Isabel battering North Carolina.

He then went to work with WTVJ, an NBC owned and operated station in Miami, where he was the weather anchor for shows such as “Today in South Florida”. During his time there, he won an Emmy Award for Best on Air Talent. In 2007, he replaced John Bolaris, but then went on to join CBS 2 as the consistent weather anchor for the network, plus in the show “CBS This Morning Saturday”, and for sister radio station WCBS-AM 880 delivering their weather reports. He subsequently moved to be the lead weather anchor of WCBS-TV based in New York City.

Lonnie has been married to Sharon since 2007, and they have two daughters together. He also has a son from his previous relationship, who is reported to be studying at Cornell University.

Lonnie is also known to have had occasional acting endeavors later in his career, appearing in the Polish film “In a Moment of Passion”, and as himself in two episodes of “As the World Turns”, plus having a support role in the comedy film “Dexter Dickie”.
