Early Life, and Move to Canada

Of British and Irish ancestry, Zoie spent the first nine years of her life in the UK, but then moved to Canada with her parents and sister, Tracey. Zoie started her high school education at Sacred Heart Catholic High School, located in Newmarket, Ontario, and after matriculation, enrolled at York University, from which she obtained a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree.

Career Beginnings

Zoie was interested in becoming an actress from an early age, and had her dream fulfilled when she was a teenager, making her professional debut at the Red Barn Theatre in Jackson’s Point, Ontario, in summer stock. From there, Zoie studied hard and made her on-screen debut in 2002 in a minor role in the TV series “Odyssey 5”, and the same year portrayed Rebecca Kull in the  television film “The Scream Team”, while in 2003 she appeared in another television film, the biopic “The Reagans”, starring Judy Davis, James Brolin and Zeljko Ivanek; the film was a complete success, earning multiple Golden Globe Award nominations and several other awards. After a couple of minor appearances in TV series and films, Zoie secured the recurring role of Patsy Sawyer in the hit TV music-drama series “Instant Star” from 2006 to 2007, starring Alexz Johnson, Tim Rozon and Kristopher Turner. Her next role was as Carly Greig in the TV drama series “The Guard” (2008-2009), but it was in 2010 that Zoie made her breakthrough, with the role of Dr. Lauren Lewis in the TV drama series “Lost Girl” (2010-2015).
