It was reported that he had tried his hand at wrestling with WWE early in the year, before signing a contract to work with the company’s Performance Center. Shortly afterwards, he began appearing with the company’s developmental brand NXT during their house shows. He wrestled with Tony Nese and Kassius Ohno, achieving victories and defeats as he developed his skill.

He continued wrestling in house shows for the next few months, working with Kona Reeves and also trying his hand at tag team wrestling. During another house show, he gained an opportunity to become a contender for the NXT North American Championship, challenging wrestler Ricochet in a losing bout. He then teamed with Heavy Machinery, defeating The Forgotten Sons in a house show before competing against Adam Cole in another losing effort. Afterwards, he competed in a battle royal to gain a number one contender opportunity for the NXT Championship, but lost against Keith Lee.

Quitting NXT and Recent Projects

Stacey made a few appearances in NXT shows early in 2019 before taking some time off wrestling, and many sources believed he was either taking a break or was injured. In early-2019, it was then reported that he had quit the company, and various rumors started circulating – according to several sources, he suffered a concussion scare during a recorded appearance, and after recovering was given time to think things over. He eventually, decided that he would stop wrestling out of concern that another concussion may prove to be worse. The video of him suffering the possible concussion was posted online in a recorded match.

A concussion is a mild traumatic brain injury that temporarily affects brain function. Symptoms include blurry vision, headaches, mood changes, and trouble with memory. Prior to leaving NXT, Stacey was known for doing acrobatic movements such as the 630 Senton bomb and the standing corkscrew shooting star press, which requires a high amount of athleticism to pull off, and are risky wrestling moves if not performed properly. Since the report, he has not posted anything wrestling-related on his personal social media accounts. Instead, he has been promoting a personal project related to physical and mental wellness.
