Who is Dana Barron?

Dana Barron was born on 22 April 1966, in New York City, USA, and is an actress, perhaps still best known for her role in the 1983 film “National Lampoon’s Vacation” in which she played the original Audrey Grisworld. She later reprised the role in “National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation 2: Cousin Eddie’s Island Adventure” for NBC.

The Riches of Dana Barron

How rich is Dana Barron? As of late-2018, sources estimate a net worth that is over $500,000, earned through a successful career in acting. She’s also been a part of other acting projects throughout her career, and as she continues her endeavors, it is expected that her wealth will also continue to increase.

Early Life and Career Beginnings

Dana was exposed to the entertainment industry at a young age, as her mother was a stage actress while her father worked as a commercial director; he was also a church pastor, and founded The Weist-Barron School of Television, the first soap opera acting and commercial acting television school in the world. Her grandmother was an opera singer, so Dana is a fifth generation entertainer. Growing up, she watched her sister act in television commercials, and her father inspired Dana to do the same. At 10 years old, she started doing television commercials, and the following year appeared in a Broadway production of “Hide and Seek”, alongside Christine Baranski. In 1980, she made her feature film debut in the slasher film “He Knows You’re Alone”, alongside Tom Hanks, which was also his film debut. The film follows a soon-to-be bride who is stalked by a killer the weekend before her wedding, and was inspired by the success of 1978’s “Halloween”.

National Lampoon’s Vacation and Prominence

In 1983, Barron was cast in the comedy film “National Lampoon’s Vacation”, originating the role of Audrey Griswold, and starred Chevy Chase and Beverly D’Angelo. It was a box office hit and received favorable reviews from critics, leading to numerous sequels, and is considered a cult film today. Dana then worked on several projects, including “One Life to Live” and “The Equalizer”, concurrently having a regular role in the series “Crossbow” which aired for two years.

She also had roles in other films, including “Death Wish 4: The Crackdown” and “Heartbreak Hotel”, which tells of the fictional kidnapping of Elvis Presley and his subsequent redemption. In 1989, Barron received a Daytime Emmy Award for her work with the CBS after-school special entitled “No Means No”. She also appeared in the soap opera entitled “One Life to Live” in the role of Michelle Boudin which she held for a year. She continued her television work over the next few years, appearing as a guest in “Dream On’, “Murder, She Wrote”, and “The Watcher. She also appeared in the television film entitled “Jailbreakers”, which starred Shannen Doherty.

Later Projects

In the 1990s, Dana had a few notable roles, including in “Magic Kid 2” and “City of Industry”, which is a neo-noir crime film starring Harvey Keitel. In 1998, she was cast in the recurring role of Casey Wells in “The Magnificent Seven”, a series based on the 1960 movie of the same name, in turn based on the Japanese film “Seven Samurai”. She played the role from 1998 to 2000, and was then cast in several television films, so her popularity resurfaced once more, plus when she was cast in the television movie entitled “National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation 2: Cousin Eddie’s Island Adventure”, reprising her role of Audrey Grisworld – it is a spin-off sequel to the film “National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation”.

Later in her career, her acting work started to lessen though it was still consistent. She played the role of Tiny in the 2006 film “National Lampoon’s Pucked”, and also had a support role in the film “Happythankyoumoreplease” the directorial debut of Josh Radnor. A few of her recent television projects include the miniseries “Pandemic”, and the television movie “Naughty or Nice” which starred George Lopez. She also appeared as a guest in the show “Leverage”.

Personal Life

For her personal life, it is known that Barron was in a long-term relationship with filmmaker Michael Vickerman, but the relationship apparently ended even after they had a son together. She spent many years as a volunteer teacher for the organization United in Harmony which organizes summer camps for underprivileged and homeless children. She is also a founding member of Children Uniting Nations which is an organization dedicated to creating mentoring events for foster children. Later in her career, she enrolled in a restaurant management course at New York University, and she also took up an Early Childhood Education course from Santa Monica College.
