Willie Maxwell II was born on the 7th June 1991 in Paterson, New Jersey USA, and better known by his stage name Fetty Wap, is a rapper, singer and songwriter, who is probably best recognized for releasing two studio albums, “Fetty Wap” and “King Zoo”, and such hit singles as “Trap Queen”, “My Way” and “Wake Up”, among many others.
Early Life and Education
Fetty Wap was raised by his parents in Paterson, New Jersey. At a very young age, he contracted congenital glaucoma in both of his eyes, and doctors managed to save only one, replacing the other with an ocular prosthesis. Regarding his education, he went to Eastside High School.
Career BeginningsSpeaking about his career, Fetty Wap only became really interested in music in his early 20s. Although rapping was his initial passion and ideal career choice, he decided later on to start singing, in order to do something different and original. He adopted the name Fetty Wap as his professional name, “fetty” being the slang for money and “wap” as a tribute to his idol and major music influence, Alabama rapper Gucci Mane, whose nickname is GuWop. His breakthrough came in 2014, when he released his commercial debut single rap song entitled “Trap Queen”, which became one of the year’s biggest sleeper hits. The song eventually debuted at No. 2 on the US Billboard 100 chart as well as on The Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart, and achieved seven platinum certifications by the RIAA, with over 130 million plays on SoundCloud, plus earning him MC100 and MTV Video Music Awards. This enormous success led him to sign a recording contract with the 300 Entertainment record label, and a distribution deal with Atlantic Records, adding a considerable amount to his net worth. In June of 2015, Fetty Wap released his second single – “679” featuring Remy Boyz – which was followed by another one entitled “My Way” in collaboration with Monty, both of which entered the top 10 on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart and achieved platinum certifications as well, increasing further his popularity and success. He recorded such hit singles as “Like A Star”, on which he collaborated with Nicki Minaj, “There She Go” and “Make You Feel Good”, all in 2016. Most recently, his mixtape “For My Fans III: The Final Chapter” was released in January of 2018, while his second studio album entitled “King Zoo” will be released in August of 2018.
