Jessi Combs was born on the 27th July 1983, in Rapid City, South Dakota USA, and is a TV personality, host and metal fabricator, best known to the world as the host of the popular show “Xtreme 4×4” aired on Spike TV, among many other differing accomplishments.
Early Life and Education
Though Jessi didn’t initially have any connections with race cars and speed, she discovered a passion for speed from an early age. However, it was years later that she started pursuing her passion as a professional career.
Following her high school matriculation, Jessi received a full scholarship for interior design studies, but instead she decided to move to Denver, and pursue a snowboarding career. However, Jessi felt this type of sport was too hard for her, and as a result moved to Laramie, Wyoming, where she enrolled at WyoTech, and became a part of its Collision & Refreshing Core and the Street Rod Fabrication and Custom Fabrication and High-Performance Powertrain programs, graduating at the top of her class with a degree in Custom Automotive Fabrication along the way.
Even before she finished her studies, Jessi started showcasing her knowledge in the automotive industry. She was the co-host of the popular TV show “Xtreme 4×4”, then joined the show “Overhaulin’”, though appeared in only a couple of episodes before becoming the full-time co-host in 2012.
A half an hour series which was a part of the “Powerblock”, Jessi joined Ian Johnson as the co-host of the show, and remained in it until 2008, during which time she worked on such cars as Jeep CJ-7, Toyota FJ-60, Chevrolet S-10, Suzuki Samurai and many others. She achieved world fame while on the show, and as a result was featured in several other car shows, such as “All Girls Garage” and “The List: 1001 Car Things To Do Before You Die” among other shows.
In 2007, Jessi was involved in a freak accident while working on a car in the studio; machinery fell on her and broke her spine’s L3. Luckily, Jessi managed to recover completely – following surgery, bed rest and eight months of physical therapy, Jessi was able to walk again, but after her recuperation, Jessi decided to leave “Xtreme 4×4” and seek other endeavors.
Career After “Xtreme 4×4”
After she left the show, Jessi joined the “MythBusters” cast as a replacement for Kary Byron, while the latter was on maternity leave. She featured in twelve episodes of the seventh season of one of the most popular reality show, joining Adam Savage and Jamie Hyneman in their adventures. This appearance further contributed to her net worth and popularity.
Once “Overhaulin’” was renewed for new episodes, Jessi became the co-host in 2012 thanks to her previous experience on the show while she was a student, continuing for the next two years, and appearing in eight episodes alongside Chris Jacobs, but then in 2014 became focused on her career as a race-car driver.
In love with speed from an early age, Jessi’s parents supported her passion and got her into off-road racing. Two years later she was also the winner of the Ultra 4 King of the Hammers in the EMC Modified Class.
Additionally, back in 2013 Jessi set the women’s 4-wheel land speed record with an official run of 398.954 mph (632 km/h) and a top speed of 440.709 mph (709 km/h), driving the North American Eagle Supersonic Speed Challenger at the Alvord desert. Then in September 2016, she beat her own record with 477.59 mph, while driving the Other American Eagle.
