Early Life and Education

While there is little information about Tracy’s early life, it is known that she grew up in the United States; her father served in the US military and she grew up very close to him. After matriculating, Tracy went on to study for a bachelor’s degree at Mississippi State University. After completing her four years there, she went to the University of Oregon, Pennsylvania and finally got her certification. One of her first jobs was as a part of WTRF-TV broadcasting in Western Virginia, where she stayed until 1988, and would then become the chief weather anchor at WFMJ-TV located in Youngstown, Ohio for the next three years, before moving to Richmond, Virginia to anchor weathercasts as a part of WRIC-TV; he did the morning and noon weather reports for the network.

Further Work in Meteorology

In 1995 Butler became a part of ABC 7 News, which hired her as a meteorologist to report for the program “This Morning”. She grew her popularity from becoming one of the regular faces of the morning broadcasts, for many years to come. She also provided weather updates during the entertainment program “Windy City Live”, which was a daily talk and entertainment program. She also substituted for anchors of weather reports in “Good Morning America”, in place of Spencer Christian and Tony Perkins when they were not able to make the day’s broadcast.

Butler would become a member of both the National Weather Association, as well as the American Meteorological Society. She’s received several awards over the course of her career, including being named as “Woman of the Year” by the Executive Women’s Golf Association, gaining the Illinois Treasurer’s Public Service Award, and a Public Education Award from the MS Society Illinois Chapter. In 2014, she was also rewarded an Emmy Award alongside the ABC 7 Weather team, for the special they created entitled “Surviving the Storm”.

Later Work

Tracy also collaborated with Scott Woodruff on a golf program called “the Duke Classic”,  commemorating long-time ABC 7 cameraman Michael Dukewich who passed away, and which accumulated $60,000 in profit, which was divided between the Greater Chicago Food Depository and the Wounded Warrior Project. She also started the Weather Sketcher’s Club, which encourages children aged 13 and under to send in their weather related drawings, using markers, pencils, crayons, and paint, so that they can be aired as a part of the program “This Morning”.

Personal Life

Tracy is married and she met her husband – strangely nameless – on a blind date organized by her cousin, and they married in 1992; they would go on to have two children. Her husband is very supportive of her work and even threw a party when she completed her studies at the University of Oregon, Pennsylvania. A lot of people often comment about the things she wears on camera as well as her hair. Due to her popularity on television, she often gets asked by people about her wardrobe, and this has prompted her to keep a dress calendar so that she can remember what she wore that day and help people. She also loves golf, and during her free time participates in various charity golf programs.

    AS of today, 9/11/2018, has Tracy changed makeup or something? Her complexion has seemed lighter more plain. Has just looked that way for the last week or so. MY wife say different eye shadow? Something just seems different. Dabs.
